I got to photograph the Schmitt family at the Red Barn in Ozawkie, which is one of my favorite places to shoot weddings! Kevin is friends with the owner, who was gracious enough to let us shoot his family there.

I first met Kevin when we went to college together. If you had asked me back then, I’m not sure I’d have seen him as a family man. But seeing him with his beautiful wife, Jessica, and his adorable kids, Elizabeth, Jon and baby Madison, it all makes sense. It’s been an honor being able to see them grow together from behind the lens.

The kids are SO full of personality. I first photographed Elizabeth as a baby, but today, she’s much more sassy and totally runs the show. In typical “middle child” fashion, Jon tends to go with the flow of his big sister. Though when a face-plant mid-session made us all laugh, he didn’t mind being the center of attention and that’s when I learned he’s prone to adorable little accidents. Both older siblings totally doted on their new baby sister.

I adore that you can see the love everyone has for baby Madison. I had a hard time picking out my favorites just because they are all so precious and I think I said, “Awwwww!” a million times while going through these.

Kevin and Jessica, It means so much to me that you still ask me to photograph your beautiful, growing family. I absolutely I adore you guys and I can’t wait to capture more amazing moments.

This family is my favorite and Mr. Rye is an absolute doll. I think the photos speak volumes. Craig and Emily are amazing parents and this little guy is loved beyond words. heart_namePINIMAGE

These two are the cutest. Like, seriously.

I sort of hate Kelli because her pregnancy style is on point and I can’t even seem to pull it together for a few hours non-preggers. But she’s also super chill and fun and I love that she’s married to one of the funniest guys I’ve met.

Nate and I went to Baker together like 1,000 years ago but he was always the guy making everyone laugh. I cannot wait for him to be a father. I can just see him goofing around with his little guy and it’s everything my dreams are made of.

Kelli and Nate, I am SO in love with you both. You’re a beautiful couple and you’re going to bring this beautiful little human into the world and then you will be an even more beautiful family. Thanks for having fun with me and letting me take what I hope is a million more photos of your little man.

So every summer I get poison ivy. It doesn’t matter how cautious I am, I get it. No. Matter. What. But this year has been different and I was so proud of myself. It’s late August and I’ve had no disgusting, blistering rash.

Well, little miss Logan changed all of that.

Of course, I’ll do anything to get the shot. And for Logan’s adorably plump little legs and her fascination with the grass it meant laying down flat on my stomach to be at her level. So in the middle of an overgrown field, as I laid there looking ridiculous I’m sure, little did I know I was laying on a small patch of poison ivy.

Turns out it’s really not that bad. I know, shocker, I’m being dramatic about it. It’s really only a small area on my left forearm and since I’m a right handed this arm is basically useless anyways. Instead of being irritated about it (get it, irritated!), everytime I go to scratch I just think about little Logan and a field of sunshine and immediately I feel better. I’m going to mark this in the win column for myself.

If any of you want loan me a tarp or maybe even a hazmat suit please feel free.
